Gary Kyle

yesterday was a pretty spectacular day of shooting. i spent about four hours with an incredibly talented musician; he's a Texas singersongwriter type. if you haven't had a chance to see or hear Gary Kyle, then take a few minutes to check him out. he has a classic Texas country sound and moves seamlessly between kick-a road house rock & stripped down ballads. i promise, he's really, really good.

we rolled very light - it was just him, that beautiful old Epiphone and myself. i brought a couple of light stands, a 5-in-1 reflector and an SB800; Zack Arias would have been proud.

we were shooting some promo stuff for Gary's upcoming CD, which is due out April 25th and were blessed with incredible locations. i have to give an especially large thanks to Mike at The Amsterdam Bar, who graciously gave us access to his place. if you haven't had a chance to spend an evening of adult beveraging at The Amsterdam, you're missing out. DRAFT magazine just named it one of the country's best beer bars - and it's one of only three bars from the Lone Star State to garner the honor this year, so seriously, it's top notch.

here are a few of Gary from The Amsterdam. Every photographer should be on a quest for killer light and it's only just occurred to me that daytime bar light is possibly some of the prettiest light there is.
