Retiring 9

When the Dallas Stars retired Mike Modano's #9, I spent the day with him documenting both the public & the private moments.

He’s going to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. And I said today, if he’s not, take my stuff out. If he doesn’t deserve to be in there first ballot, no one does.

Several weeks before Mike Modano's number went into the rafters at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX, I began discussing a way to document the day for Mike & his family. But, as the day approached, it was looking less & less like that idea would become a reality.

My phone rang about 4PM the day before the ceremony and Joe Cavillo, PR man for the Stars, asked me to meet him at Mike's house the following morning. He warned me it would be a long day.

There's a funny thing about that kind of long day; you really don't want them to be a second shorter. And you half wish they would never end.

It was an incredible privilege to be invited in so close and document an incredible day. Thanks for everything, Mike.
